The triumph for Venezuela, beyond the joy of the title, also meant significant monetary prizes.

Venezuela obtained its first World Baseball Classic title, and with it, received a millionaire sum for winning the championship.

March 17, 2026, will be etched into the contemporary history of Venezuela, as for the first time ever, the national team won a World Baseball Classic title, defeating the United States 3-2 at a packed loanDepot park in Miami. Venezuelan fans celebrated as Daniel Palencia threw the final strikeout against Roman Anthony.

This championship goes beyond strictly sports; it will remain in the Venezuelan collective imagination, as it is a nation not accustomed to high-profile successes in team sports, beyond some continental triumphs in disciplines like basketball and volleyball, as well as individual achievements in the Olympic Games.

However, beyond this symbolic event, there is also a significant monetary achievement due to this feat in the World Baseball Classic. Since the beginning, the organization stipulated a series of financial rewards for each participant, with greater earnings going to those who performed best once the final out was recorded.

Venezuela wins millions for the championship

According to information published by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) prior to the tournament, the prize money for participants was set to double compared to the 2023 edition. In that previous tournament, Japan took home three million dollars, while in 2026, Venezuela earned nearly seven million dollars.

In total, it will be 6.75 million dollars, 2.5 million more than the United States, which finished in second place. This is because prize money accumulated as teams advanced through the stages.

Just for participating in the first round, teams earned 750 thousand dollars; those who reached the quarterfinals earned an additional million, while the semifinalists received 1.25 million. According to the World Baseball Classic statutes, this money will be distributed as 50% to the Venezuelan Federation and the other 50% to the members of the team.

Prize money awarded by the World Baseball Classic per stage

  • First Round: $750,000
  • Quarterfinals: $1.0 million
  • Semifinalists: $1.25 million
  • Finalists: $1.25 million
  • Champion: $2.5 million

A substantial sum that speaks to the revenue and the growing importance of the World Baseball Classic as an event that can generate the anticipation and marketing necessary to become the premier international baseball competition.
