Power Surge in Pittsburgh: Atlanta unleashes its bats to clinch crucial road series.

Fueled by homers from Olson, Yastrzemski, and Jarvis, the Braves crushed the Pirates 14-4 to snap a road slump. Reliever Víctor Mederos closed the game flawlessly to keep his perfect 0.00 ERA.

The Atlanta Braves unleashed their full offensive might on enemy territory, putting on a clinic in a 14-4 blowout victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. The dominant performance before 20,895 fans in Pennsylvania didn’t just secure a single win—it officially clinched a crucial road series for the Georgia squad.

To put the icing on the cake, Cuban reliever Víctor Mederos made a statement in his return to the big-league roster, coming out of the bullpen to lock down the final three outs of the game.

This victory provides massive breathing room for Atlanta, marking their first road series win since late May (May 29-31) and snapping a painful four-series losing streak away from home.

BOX SCORE

Víctor Mederos: Flawless in His Return

Mederos, 25, was recently called back up to the Major League roster by the Braves, his new home for the 2026 season after making his MLB debut and spending his early career with the Los Angeles Angels.

The right-hander took the mound in the ninth inning and delivered a masterclass in efficiency. He tossed 1.0 inning, allowing just one hit, zero walks, and striking out two batters.

Mederos needed only 16 pitches (11 for strikes) to secure the win. Interestingly, since making his first appearance of the year on May 20—coinciding with Cuban Independence Day—Mederos has maintained a flawless 0.00 ERA over 3.0 innings of work this season.

A Home Run Feast and Historic Milestones in Atlanta

The Braves' bats thundered all night in Pittsburgh, fueled by several historic, long-distance blasts:

  • Matt Olson Joins Elite Company: Olson launched his 25th home run of the season. This marks only the second time in his career that he has reached the 25-HR milestone before the All-Star Break (the other being his monstrous 54-HR campaign in 2023). It is also his 8th career season with 25+ homers, tying him with Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt for the fourth-most among active players. More importantly, he became just the second player in Braves history to hit 25+ home runs in each of his first five seasons with the club, joining legendary Hall of Famer Eddie Mathews.
  • Mike Yastrzemski’s Grand Slam: The outfielder went 1-for-3 and broke the game wide open with the third Grand Slam of his career (his 6th homer of the year). Yastrzemski hadn’t hit a bases-loaded home run since July 2022, back when he hit a dramatic walk-off grand slam for the Giants.
  • Jim Jarvis’ First Big League Blast: Young infielder Jim Jarvis enjoyed an unforgettable night, going 3-for-5 and crushing his first career Major League home run in just his seventh game in the Big Show.
On the International side for Atlanta, Curaçaoan star Ozzie Albies contributed by going 1-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, while Honduran utility man Mauricio Dubón also went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Pirates Fire Back with Back-to-Back Blasts

Despite the lopsided score, Pittsburgh's sensational Dominican rookie Esmerlyn Valdez continued his red-hot streak. Valdez went 1-for-4, launching a solo home run in the third inning.

Valdez’s blast went back-to-back with star outfielder Bryan Reynolds. This marked the fourth time the Pirates have hit consecutive home runs this season. Reynolds (1-for-4) crushed his 14th homer of the year, bringing his total to three home runs over his last 10 games.

As for Esmerlyn Valdez, this marks his 7th home run in just 25 games and 82 at-bats since his debut, summarizing a stellar offensive line of .293 / .359 / .634 with a staggering .993 OPS.

The highest individual note for Pittsburgh came from Jake Mangum, who had a perfect 4-for-5 night with a double, his second home run of the year, and a stolen base.

Mangum set a season-high with 4 hits, becoming the first Pirate with 4 hits, a home run, and a stolen base in a single game since Bryan Reynolds accomplished the feat in 2021.

Game Notes:

  • Game Time: 3 hours and 7 minutes.
    Attendance: 20,895 fans.
    Venue: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, PA.
