As he leads the Rays' rotation in the World Series against the Brewers, Freddy Peralta is shaping up to be one of the most sought-after free agents of the winter.

The Dominican, MVP of the Championship Series, will become a free agent after helping the Rays reach the 2026 World Series.

Freddy Peralta currently has an estimated market value of $201,110,000 over a projected seven-year contract, averaging $28,728,494 per year, according to a valuation model developed by the sports data portal Spotrac. This figure makes sense when considering the Dominican pitcher’s recent trajectory: after eight seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, he was traded to the New York Mets, where he had an inconsistent start, posting a 4.99 ERA across 22 starts. Before the trade deadline, New York moved him again, this time to the Tampa Bay Rays, and that is where his season took a complete turn.

With Tampa Bay, Peralta lowered his regular-season ERA to 3.25, but it was in the postseason that his value truly skyrocketed: he recorded a 1.08 ERA over 16.2 innings, a performance that earned him the American League Championship Series MVP award after he helped eliminate the Cleveland Guardians.

A World Series protagonist, with his sights set on December

Peralta is scheduled to start Game 3 of the World Series this Monday, October 26, as the series moves to Tropicana Field, facing none other than the Milwaukee Brewers, the organization that developed him as a professional. "Milwaukee is the team and the city that gave me the opportunity to make my dream come true," the Dominican player said regarding the matchup against his former team.

Despite the magnitude of the moment, the Dominican has already made his preference for the winter clear to Foul Territory:

"I’m very comfortable here. I’d love to stay here for the rest of my career, especially because there are many people here whom I care about... and also, for me personally, I live in Florida, and everything is just easier for me in general," Peralta stated in the same interview.

Competition that could complicate his return to Tampa

The problem for the Rays is that this personal desire guarantees nothing in a market that already has him in its sights. Analysts at Yahoo Sports have pointed to the San Diego Padres as a logical suitor, given the urgent need for starting pitching on the San Diego roster heading into 2027.

“Peralta would fit perfectly into the rotation alongside a healthy Pivetta and Musgrove and perhaps with a restructured deal for King,” wrote Gabe Smallson in the article.

Having just turned 30, and with a track record that includes two All-Star selections during his time with Milwaukee, Peralta stands out as one of the most attractive arms in this free-agent class, in a market where his value is only likely to keep rising as long as he continues to pitch at this level throughout October.
