More importantly, the Cubs' star center fielder—who served as the designated hitter in this game—and leadoff batter recorded at least 10 total bases for the seventh time in his career, tying Hal Trosky (1933-36) for the most such games by a player aged 24 or younger in the Modern Era (since 1900).

Pete Crow-Armstrong is on pace for a one-of-a-kind MLB season

No player in Major League Baseball history has ever finished a season with at least 35 home runs, 30 stolen bases, and 10.0 fWAR. Crow-Armstrong, however, is on pace to surpass all three benchmarks, with projections of roughly 37 home runs, 39 stolen bases, and 10.8 fWAR.

If he reaches those numbers, he would become the first player in MLB history to accomplish that combination in a single season.

The left-handed All-Star is currently slashing .288/.386/.552 with a .938 OPS, along with 26 home runs and 28 stolen bases through 115 games. He appears well positioned to reach those milestones and could also record his second consecutive 30-homer, 30-steal campaign after posting a 31-homer, 35-steal season in 2025.

Another potential record involving Shohei Ohtani

During Wednesday's matchup between the Dodgers and Cubs, both Pete Crow-Armstrong and Shohei Ohtani opened the game by hitting leadoff home runs.

If the season ends as expected, it would mark the first time in MLB history that two players who both finish in the top 10 of their league's MVP voting—and potentially even the top two—hit leadoff home runs in the same game.

While the final MVP results will not be announced until November, the possibility appears very realistic. Ohtani is once again a leading candidate to capture what would be the fifth MVP Award of his career, while Crow-Armstrong has emerged as a legitimate contender to finish among the top five in the National League voting.
