Junior Caminero's home run production isn't slowing down, and he wants to keep breaking records in MLB.

Junior Caminero hit his 27th home run with the Rays and is closing in on José Canseco's record of 31 before the All-Star Game. The Dominican slugger has 12 home runs in 16 games and leads MLB in long balls.

The raw power of youth continues to dictate terms in Major League Baseball. On Thursday night, sensational Dominican infielder Junior Caminero once again captured the spotlight of the baseball world, blasting a majestic home run that etched his name deep into his franchise's record books.

Unfortunately for Tampa Bay, Caminero’s masterclass in power came in a losing effort, as the New York Yankees unleashed a fierce 12-4 blowout victory over the Rays.

Despite the tough team loss, the game served as another definitive reminder that the 22-year-old native of Santo Domingo is rapidly transitioning into one of the most electric and feared hitters in the entire game, showcasing a level of maturity that defies his age.

A Long-Distance Blast for the Record Books

Caminero’s home run came early, striking in the top of the first inning. Showcasing an incredible ability to adjust on the fly, the young phenom deciphered an adverse 0-2 pitch and sent it on a dynamic, deep flight out of the park.

That single swing brought an impressive cascade of statistical milestones:

  • The King of Distance: This blast marked Caminero’s 10th home run of the season to travel at least 425 feet, cementing him as the undisputed leader in long-distance home runs across all of MLB this year.
  • Chasing Canseco: The shot was his 27th home run of the campaign. With this milestone, he secured the second-most home runs before the All-Star Break in Tampa Bay Rays franchise history, trailing only the legendary 31 homers hit by Cuban icon José Canseco during the 1999 season.
  • Historical Frequency: Caminero is riding a stretch from another planet, accumulating 12 home runs over his last 16 games. No player in the history of the Tampa Bay organization had ever hit that many homers in a 16-game span.
  • Breaking the Slump: The blast was also a massive mental breakthrough, snapping an active 0-for-16 drought when falling behind in 0-2 counts and breaking an overall 15-at-bat hitless slump.

Pulverizing His Own Past

Caminero’s offensive trajectory points directly toward a historic season. He currently holds a stellar .277 / .367 / .546 slash line, representing the highest and most dominant triple-slash numbers of his Major League career.
He is advancing at a breakneck pace to challenge the elite milestones he set during his breakout 2025 campaign. Last year, across 154 games, Caminero launched a monstrous 45 home runs, drove in 110 runs, and scored 93 times an elite performance that earned him his first All-Star selection and a 9th-place finish in the American League MVP voting.

Remarkably, Caminero has already surpassed a key development metric showing his evolved plate discipline: he has drawn 49 walks this year, leaving behind the 41 free passes he secured in all of 2025.

A Secured Future in Tampa Bay For the Rays' faithful, the long-term future of the franchise remains completely secured around the bat of the young Dominican. Caminero is under team control with Tampa Bay through the 2030 season.

While he will become eligible for salary arbitration for the first time in 2028, management knows exactly what they have: the indisputable cornerstone of their franchise. While the Yankees celebrate a single regular-season victory, the Rays can smile knowing that the absolute best years of their young superstar are still to come.

Junior Caminero is aiming for another 30-home run season in his MLB career.
