Luis Arráez is heading back to the free-agent market with a stronger case than before. His offensive production and defensive improvement make him an intriguing option for three MLB teams.

The San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers are among the potential landing spots for Arráez. His defensive transformation could play a key role in securing a more lucrative deal this offseason.

MLB free agency has once again put Luis Arráez in the spotlight. Coming off a season in which he regained his offensive footing and made a significant defensive leap, the Venezuelan infielder could be in line for a more lucrative contract than the one he signed a year ago.

The three-time batting champion showed that his elite bat-to-ball skills remain a valuable asset. Arráez hit .310 in 2026, collecting 185 hits and posting a .765 OPS in 151 games split between the San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies.

But one factor could significantly change how teams view him on the open market: his defensive improvement. After years of questions about his ability to handle the field, Arráez posted 12 Outs Above Average (OAA), ranking in MLB's 97th percentile. That remarkable turnaround could expand his market and make him a more appealing option as a starting second baseman.

According to CBS Sports' analysis of the 2026-27 free-agent market, three teams stand out as particularly intriguing potential destinations for the Venezuelan infielder: the San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers.

San Francisco Giants: A Second Stint in the Bay Area

San Francisco could once again be a fit for Arráez. He began the 2026 season with the Giants after signing a one-year, $12 million contract, before being dealt to Philadelphia at the trade deadline.

The Giants are familiar with his offensive strengths and saw firsthand the progress he made defensively, particularly at second base. His 12 Outs Above Average in 2026 marked a remarkable improvement over his previous defensive numbers.

San Francisco needs stability in its infield, and Arráez could provide experience, contact skills and consistency. A reunion would make sense if the two sides can find common ground financially.

Philadelphia Phillies: Staying With a Contender

Philadelphia also has a compelling case for bringing Arráez back. The Phillies acquired him at the trade deadline and had an opportunity to see how his offensive profile fits into a lineup built to contend for a championship.

His ability to put the ball in play and avoid strikeouts would provide an interesting complement to a lineup featuring several power threats.

The biggest obstacle, however, is the positional picture. Bryson Stott remains an option at second base, and Philadelphia has other infield decisions to sort out this offseason.

Still, keeping Arráez would give the Phillies a proven contact hitter whose skill set could make a difference over a full season and in October.

Texas Rangers: An Answer at Second Base

Texas could be one of the most intriguing fits from a baseball standpoint. The Rangers need to find stability at second base following the departure of Marcus Semien and the difficulty of establishing a reliable replacement.

Arráez would address that need. His .310 average and 185 hits in 2026 show that his elite contact ability remains intact, while his defensive improvement could allow him to take on an everyday role at second base.

Texas has also been linked to the Venezuelan infielder in the past, giving the potential connection some history.

Although Arráez would not bring much power to the lineup, his ability to consistently find holes, get on base and create offensive opportunities could be a valuable addition to the Rangers.
